Remove the Cottage Cheese From Your Ceiling

Most people shopping for new homes want to move into a nice updated house. So before you put your house on the market, take a moment to look at it through a buyer’s eyes. And try to be objective.

Here are some things you should consider.

* Do your ceilings have a textured “cottage cheese” look? You might want to replace them with plain gypsum board. It’s a nasty messy job, but it will pay dividends when it comes time to sell.

* Do you have old wall-to-wall carpeting everywhere? What’s underneath? If it’s hardwood flooring then you should think about ripping out the carpet and cleaning up the wood. Hardwood is what buyers will be looking for. And if you don’t have hardwood under the carpet, think about installing a pre-finished wood floor. It will make all the difference.

* If the vinyl floor in your kitchen is coming unglued, it’s time for a new floor. Cork tiles are a great option for a kitchen and are easy to install.

* How old are your window treatments? There’s nothing that says neglect quite like old blinds with missing slats. Go to Home Depot for inexpensive replacements.
