Dobbs Ferry Mayor Hartley Connett, an Independent, will run unopposed for his third two-year term. He has been endorsed by the Republican and Dobbs Ferry party lines. The Daily Voice asked Mayor Connett about his approach to the job and his goals for the next two years.

Tell us how you balance family, your profession and your office? It is not easy to balance the time commitment required to do the Mayor’s (or Trustee’s) job in addition to your professional and family responsibilities. To manage properly requires hard work, good planning, and the ability to make informed decisions so as not to dwell on things for too long or get bogged down. I think it is also true what they say - it’s better to be busy if you want to get things done.

What are you main three goals for the next term? 1.) Continue the fiscal and planning initiatives we have established to help further reduce the burden on tax payers, helping to make Dobbs Ferry more sustainable and increase property values.

2) Completion of the Waterfront Renovation Project.

3) Build on success of public-private partnerships to continue upgrading the Village’s recreation resources and infrastructure for the benefit of all residents, particularly the youth and senior citizens.

What would you ask residents to do to help you as a leader? Stay informed and get involved. There are resources available for residents to keep informed about what is happening in the village, including regular Newsletter Updates and Announcements via e-mail subscription and on the village’s revamped website. In addition, the village broadcasts all of the board meetings live, as well taped rebroadcasts which can be viewed on the Public Access TV channels. Meetings can also be streamed on the village’s website. The village encourages residents to get involved and to volunteer. Volunteerism is way up in Dobbs Ferry; it can be really rewarding for the individual and it makes a hugely positive difference for the community. There are a lot of things to do and the village can always use more help. Please reach out to us if you want to get involved.

What are the best things about your job? - Keeping connected with the community.

- Giving back and helping to make a positive difference.

- Interacting with all the great people who work for the Village and those who volunteer their time.

What is the toughest thing about being in office? There is nothing tough about being in office. It is an honor to serve all of the residents.
