It Looks Antique, But it's Not

As I wound through Westport following open house signs last weekend, I was delighted to spot what looked like an old farmhouse in immaculate condition. How nice – a change from center hall colonials and raised ranches, I said to myself. Of course I was dead wrong, it wasn’t an old farmhouse at all, as became immediately apparent as we went up the new driveway, but brand new construction with the most extraordinary attention to period detail.

Designed by Southport architect Jack Franzen, The Lowlyn House in Old Hill as it has been charmingly named, is a house that is going to appeal to a wide range of buyers. It has intimate cozy spaces, like the subdued foyer and the library/study that seems designed for two at the most, interspersed with wide open spaces and long sight lines. This is the sort of home where you can have quiet dinners for two, or free-for-all parties for absolutely everyone in your address book.

The kitchen and adjacent family room are enormous, while the other public rooms downstairs are sensibly dimensioned. Five bedrooms with four full baths and two powder rooms, with requisite closets and storage are upstairs. There’s a three car garage leading into a mudroom large enough to accommodate everything you can throw at it, and with room to spare.

This is brand new construction and it’s close to Exit 41 on the Merritt.  Asking price for 5 Lowlyn Road in Westport is $2,550,000, just recently reduced by a big chunk of change.
