This home in Darien is exactly the type of house Id like to get my hands on. I see tons of potential here. There are five bedrooms, so its perfect for a large family. Or even for a small family with au pairs and in-laws in tow. And it fits the bill for people who need room for their home office.
The rooms flow nicely into each other, the kitchen works well, the mudroom -- that essential repository for daily clutter -- is gigantic and cleverly designed. The master bedroom is on the ground floor and the other four bedrooms are all good sizes. The sunroom is lovely, with lots of natural light streaming through the large windows, which look out on the garden and the in-ground pool.
This house is in an area of large, expensive homes, so you could put some money into updates and still stay ahead of the game. If you love the area close to both Darien and Noroton train stations but need more room, you could probably add a master bedroom suite above the living room, as well as a pretty porch at the front of the house.
Theres no reason you couldnt move into the house just the way it is, but a few cosmetic changes refinishing the floors, changing the doorknobs and a new color scheme would make 9 Old Parish Road in Darien really shine. The square footage is 4,634, taxes are a tad over $14,000 and the asking price is $1,849,000.
