Fairfield's Historic Restmore Home Listed For Sale For First Time At $3.9M

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield home formerly owned by the founder of a Bridgeport women's apparel company and listed on the National Register of Historic Places is on the market for the first time since it was built in 1912.

The home is located at 375 Warner Hill Road in Fairfield. "Restmore," designed by renowned architect, Ehrick Kensett Rossiter, was commissioned by in 1910 by Dr. Ira DeVer Warner, Sr., founder of Warner Brothers Women’s Apparel Co. of Bridgeport. The list price for the home is $3.9 million.

The home is set on 5.5 acres atop Mill Hill and overlooks Long Island Sound. The landmark dwelling is a custom-designed Cape Dutch style estate and includes five bedrooms and 4.5 baths.

The estate is patterned after “Groote Schuur," the Cape Town, South Africa summer estate of Cecil J. Rhodes, Britain’s famed “Empire Builder.” Rossiter blended into the Cape Dutch style his classic interior molding and fenestration trim detail to produce the quiet elegance of “Restmore."

The home  boasts over 6,900 square , with 11 rooms and five working fireplaces and heated porches, all of which once enjoyed the company of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. a friend of Dr. Warner.
