The real estate market finally has some momentum. Buyers are on the move -- in and out of your house -- and that means salt and grit could start sanding the shine right off your floors.
Since buyers are often sellers as well, they understand how much work goes into keeping a home in show house shape. Ask your realtor to make sure people leave their shoes at the door. Most people will be happy to oblige.
One way to help potential buyers remember your home is to provide them with a pair of warm comfy socks to wear as they walk through the house. Let them keep the socks as a souvenir. You can stock up on inexpensive socks from discount stores, such as T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. Fill a pretty basket with the socks and leave it by the front door. Make sure showing realtors know about your sock bin. Set out a mat for visitors' shoes, and if you have a bench or spare chair, leave it near the sock basket so that people can sit down to put on their socks on the way in -- their shoes on the way out.
Do you take off your shoes when you walk into other peoples homes?
