Westport's Melissa Joan Hart Becomes CT Chair Of Libertarian's Campaign

WESTPORT, Conn. — Westport actress Melissa Joan Hart has joined the presidential campaign of Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson as the Connecticut chairperson, according to People.com.

The news is also posted on the Facebook page of Connecticut For Gary Johnson 2016.  

In the People article, Hart says she supports the idea of a third-party candidate and hopes that Johnson will be included in the next presidential debate. She notes that he is socially liberal but fiscally conservative, People.com said.

Hart, 40, lives in Westport with her husband, Mark Wilkerson, and their three children. Best known for her roles on "Clarissa Explains It All," "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and "Melissa & Joey," she is a also a director, producer, singer, fashion designer and businesswoman. Last year, she launched her fashion line King of Harts.

In the 2012 election, Hart endorsed Republican Mitt Romney via Twitter. Earlier this year, she said via Twitter that she had donated to Johnson's presidential campaign. 

Johnson, 63, is the former governor of New Mexico. He also ran for president as the Libertarian candidate in 2012. His running mate is Bill Weld, former governor of Massachusetts.
