NORWALK, Conn. -- Chris Perone, who currently serves as the state representative in Norwalk's 137th House District, has qualified for the Democratic primary as he fights to keep his seat.

Perone earned a spot on the ballot for the Aug. 12 primary by handing in more than the 228 signatures required at noon on Monday, June 9.

In the primary, Perone will face Norwalk Common Council member David Watts, who won the Democratic Party nomination in a May vote.

Perone said he spent 19 days knocking on doors across the district, speaking with residents about his record. He said he pointed to increased school funding and over $100 million in economic and community grants that he has procured for Norwalk over the last 10 years.

“I have been overwhelmed by the show of support within our community. It is an honor that people want me to continue to serve as their state representative,” said Perone.

State Rep. Bruce Morris and state Sen. Bob Duff -- fellow Norwalk Democrats -- helped Perone gather the necessary signatures.

“The reactions of people at the doors was fantastic. Voters expressed enthusiasm for Chris for his proven leadership and ability to bring real results back to Norwalk,” said Duff, D-25th District.
