"We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your commitment and dedication to public service," Glenn Terlecki, CPFU president, said in a letter. "We feel that the citizens of the state of Connecticut and our members will benefit greatly from your work as a state legislator."

The CPFU represents about 850 police officers, firefighters and other public safety professionals. Its endorsement of Bedell comes due in large part to his belief that public safety officers deserve a defined benefit retirement plan as well as access to affordable higher education for themselves and their children.

"I'm honored to receive the support of the Connecticut Police & Fire Union," Bedell said in a statement. "If elected, I hope to strengthen laws protecting state employees and all working people and their families."

Republican Tom O’Dea is the incumbent running for the seat.
