The final vote tally came in at 1,057 votes for Dunsby and 944 votes for write-in candidate Val Buckley

Early polling information had the race closer, and given that Buckley was a write-in candidate, there needed to be a count, officials said late Tuesday.

Dunsby had been chairman of the Board of Education and was nominated in September for the top spot on the ballot after First Selectman Tom Herrmann declined to run again for office late in the election season due to work commitments.

Buckley had failed to get on the ballot in October and formed the Easton Coalition to run for the seat. She has been the director of the Easton Senior Center for the last 20 years.
