NORWALK, Conn. – An employee in the Norwalk town clerk’s office is under investigation in connection with a possible misappropriation of money, Town Clerk Rick McQuaid confirmed Tuesday night.

Details of the investigation, first reported in The Hour newspaper, have not been disclosed, nor has the employee’s identity.

McQuaid said he would not publicly discuss the matter, other than to urge that people not prejudge the situation.

“The police have been given information and are looking into it, and there is a personnel investigation,” said McQuaid. “The town clerk’s office is cooperating.”

Including McQuaid, the office has eight people, some of whom are members of the Norwalk Assistants and Supervisors Association.

The employee in question is a member of the NASA union. Its president, Al Palumbo Jr., could not be reached for comment late Tuesday.
