Phase Two Plans For Norwalk River Valley Trail Underway

NORWALK, Conn. -- Planning for the next phase of the Norwalk River Valley Trail is underway, with a public information meeting scheduled for July 30 at 7 p.m.

The meeting will be in the Public Works Conference Room, Second Floor, Room 225, of Norwalk City Hall. Representatives of the project will be available two hours before the meeting to discuss the project.

The next phase of the biking and walking trail will run from Union Park to New Canaan Avenue along the Norwalk River. The existing trail currently ends in Union Park.

The planned stretch of the trail is expected to cost $2.9 million with 80 percent of the costs covered by the Federal Highway Administration and 20 percent paid for by the City of Norwalk.

The path is part of the larger proposed 27-mile trail that is expected to run from Norwalk to Danbury. The project is likely to take 10 to 15 years to complete, according to Norwalk River Valley Trail organizers.
