NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk’s 2012-13 spending plan presentation has received the Government Finance Officers’ Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, city officials announced.

The award “reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” according to the association. The 2012-13 award is the 12th consecutive year Norwalk has received the award.

Norwalk’s budget plan presentation received the recognition for being deemed “proficient” in meeting several municipal budgeting guidelines, including having a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Less than 1,300 of more than 87,000 local governments in the United States received recognition, according to the Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia.

“I am grateful that Norwalk’s budget has received this national recognition of excellence, and commend the City’s entire budget staff (consisting of Robert Barron, Donna Castracane, and Lola Grey) for their outstanding work,” Finance Director Tom Hamilton wrote in an email.
