CAFCA recognized Duff with the 2014 Community Action Senate Leader of the Year award for his work at the State Capitol supporting the organization and its 11 Community Action Agencies across the state, according to a press release. CAFCA and its subsidiaries seek to empower people in need and improve the communities in which they live by providing a variety of services to families, including child care, job training, health services, energy assistance, homelessness prevention, food pantries and senior support services.
“Connecticut’s Community Action Agencies are an integral component of each and every town in our state. They provide a wide variety of essential services to families in need, and I have been very proud to support their work over the years. It is an honor to be recognized by the statewide Association,” said Duff.
May is recognized nationally as “Community Action Month.” CAFCA’s Community Action Agencies cover all towns and cities in the state of Connecticut, and last year served more than 350,000 individuals and families throughout the state, according to the release.
"Norwalk's NEON has dealt with a number of problems in recent years, but the agency's role in our community is absolutely vital. I am committed to working with the CAFCA and partners throughout our city and our state to ensure Norwalk and lower Fairfield County have a great Community Action Agency which families can rely upon for years to come,” said Duff.
Edith Pollock Karsky, Executive Director of CAFCA, praised Duff for "his years of service as a leader in the Connecticut Senate and especially for his ongoing support of the critical services provided by the CAAs, such as the CT Energy Assistance Program," according to the release.
“As chair of the Energy and Technology Committee, Senator Duff’s oversight of this very important program was instrumental in our ability to provide home energy assistance to over 100,000 households in the state this past energy season,” said Karsky. “His door is always open and he has always been responsive to the needs of Connecticut’s elderly, vulnerable and low-income families. We look forward to working with Senator Duff as we move forward."
