Norwalk's Donna King Attends Democratic National Convention - Again

NORWALK, Conn. – Donna King is in territory both familiar and new this week as a Norwalk delegate to the Democratic National Convention , the fourth time she has been present to cast a vote in the nomination of a presidential candidate.

"I kind of have a sense of what to expect but each city is different and each time the whole situation is different," said King, a former Common Council member who was at the DNC in 1996 in Chicago, in 2000 in Los Angeles and in 2008 in Denver. "So it will be exciting. It will be fun."

Last week, Mayor Richard Moccia, Republican Town Committee Chair Art Scialabba and state Rep. Larry Cafero attended the Republican National Convention in Florida. This week, King and Peter Thor, Norwalk Democratic Town Committee treasurer, are Norwalk's contingent at the Democratic convention, two of the 88 delegates representing Connecticut in Charlotte, N.C.

"We get to not only meet more people from around the state and talk with delegates, but in addition we also meet delegates from around the country," King said. "Democrats who think the same as we do and some who have totally different issues. We know they're always excited to see our governor because we're one of those true blue states."

Neither the Republicans nor Thor returned a request for comment about their political trips.

President Barack Obama has King's full support in his bid to win reelection.

"I think his chances are great, I think he's built up a lot of good will with people based on the decisions he's made," she said. "I think that things are getting better. I feel that the country is not fooled by the stories told about killing Medicare and all of that. It's just not factual. Democrats have been protecting Medicare for years and will continue to do so."
