Morris' father, Bruce L. Morris, was named deputy speaker 40 years ago, the first African-American ever named to the position.

The deputy speaker presides over the House of Representatives when the speaker is not in the chamber.

“Almost to the day, my father, Bruce L, also was named deputy speaker 40 years ago, and I am deeply honored by Speaker Sharkey’s decision to make me a part of the House leadership team.” Morris said in a statement.

He represents the 140th General Assembly District and was recently sworn into office for a fifth consecutive two-year term.

“As a leader within our caucus, Rep. Morris has the experience and ability to help improve the quality of life for everyone in Connecticut, while at the same time representing the interests of the families of Norwalk,” Sharkey added in his own statement.

Constituents interested in contacting Morris can call his office at the Capitol at either 860-240-8500 or 800-842-8267.
