NORWALK, Conn. — State Rep. Bruce Morris is planning on running for mayor of Norwalk, according to the Hour.

Morris, a Democrat, told the Hour that he intends to run, and that a formal announcement will be coming in the next few weeks. He would be running against incumbent Democrat Harry Rilling, who announced in January that he intended to seek a third term in office.

Morris and Rilling are so far the only candidates who have announced their intentions to run, according to the Hour. Norwalk Republicans have indicated that they will run a candidate in this year's election, the Hour reported.

Rilling is the former chief of the Norwalk Police Department, and Morris is in his sixth term in the state House of Representatives, representing the 140th district. He worked for Norwalk Public Schools for more than 10 years, but in July his position as school climate officer was eliminated, the Hour reported.

The Norwalk Democratic Town Committee will endorse a candidate at a meeting that takes place between July 18 and 24, according to the Hour. A candidate who does not receive an endorsement at that meeting can still force a Democratic primary by collecting enough signatures to challenge the endorsement, the Hour said.
