To the editor:

I’m pleased to announce that I will be running again for state representative in the 141st District, Darien and Norwalk. Many thanks to Belinda Metzger and Ralph Depanfilis for nominating and seconding me and to the delegates for their support on Monday night. It has been my honor and truly a privilege to be your voice and vote in Hartford.

Though Connecticut has many positive attributes – a vibrant and diverse population, good schools, a well-educated workforce, rich cultural opportunities, a historic coastline and scenic landscapes—we face deep fiscal challenges.

Since the recession of 2008, we’ve dealt with a cycle of deficits, which have resulted from too much spending, shortfalls in revenue and historic underfunding of pension liabilities. Solutions from the Democrats – who control both legislative chambers and the governor’s office--have been record tax increases, raising fees, more regulation, mandates, and cuts in services…with little structural change in the budget. The result…we’re not attracting new businesses or creating new high-paying jobs and our businesses and citizens are leaving for more fiscally friendly states.

Despite our state’s difficult financial situation, I believe we can turn this around. As a Republican, I support fiscally conservative values and that a practical and honest debate -- with both parties at the table -- will provide progress and lasting solutions. It is critical that we balance priorities with fiscal restraint, something I’ve advocated for every day in Hartford. I’ve tackled the issues -- the budget, public safety, mental/behavioral health, the human services safety net, education and the environment -- with common-sense problem solving. Further, I have proven myself to be a Republican who can successfully work across the aisle.

As we begin this campaign, here is my promise to you…to continue to represent you honestly, through active engagement by listening and learning. I look forward to speaking with the citizens of Darien and Norwalk on the critical and substantive issues facing our state. Thank you for your trust in me, and I hope, again, to earn your trust and your vote on November 8th.
