In 2014, the Daily Voice published Wilms’ responses to a League of Women Voters’ questionnaire made when he was first running for the state representative post. Wilms highlighted his background in the banking business and said his degrees in economics and finance and said they would serve him well in Hartford.
Connecticut’s problems, he said then, included rising taxes, little or no job growth, and “irresponsible” state budgets.
He eventually beat rival Emily Wilson and replaced state Rep. Lawrence Cafero, who was retiring.
In the NCAdvertiser.com piece, which carried his byline, Wilms said his top priority was to put Connecticut back on a sustainable fiscal path.
