NORWALK, Conn. – State Rep. Bruce Morris of Norwalk recently received a grant from the Clean Elections Program to use for his re-election campaign this year. He was the first candidate in the 140th District who has fulfilled the criteria to get this grant, and he did so within three weeks.

To qualify, a candidate must raise $5,000 from at least 150 contributors from Norwalk. CEP participation promotes clean, fair elections. The goal of the program is to increase citizens’ individual value and make the democratic process more clear. It also seeks to cut back on how much money influences local politics.

“I’d like to thank everyone that has contributed to the effort,” said Morris. “It’s fantastic to see that after eight years, the community supports me with the same vigor as they did on my first run.”

Morris, a Democrat candidate seeking re-election, will use the grant to continue his community campaign, which includes knocking on doors.

“Qualifying for this grant has been a community effort,” he said. “Over the course of this campaign, I, along with my supporters, will continue to be out knocking on doors, getting out our message of economic development, support for education and crime prevention.

The Democratic primary will be Aug. 12. He faces a primary challenge from at-large Common Council member Warren Peña of Norwalk.
