“Thank you all for your trust in me to continue to move Norwalk forward,” said Rilling while accepting the nomination. “Now we must take our message of progress to the public and earn the vote of the people. Being elected is an honor and a privilege, not a right. I look forward to continuing to serve Norwalk.”
Rilling was nominated by state Sen. Bob Duff.
“This is Norwalk's time,” said Duff. "Harry is kicking it into high gear and leading Norwalk's renaissance. Let's continue this progress. Let's re-elect Harry Rilling and the entire Democratic team in November."
Nominated alongside Rilling was the Democratic slate of ficw at-large Common Council candidates: Michael Corsello, incumbent Bruce Kimmel, Laoise King, Nick Sacchinelli, and incumbent Sharon Stewart. The diverse and experienced slate will run with Rilling as a team.
“I need the support of the full Democratic team to continue to make Norwalk a more livable city for families and businesses in all of our neighborhoods,” said Rilling. “This diverse team represents every corner of Norwalk, we know the strengths of our city, we know how to make it better. Our diversity is our strength and ensures we are bettering every neighborhood in Norwalk."
The nomination also gave Rilling the opportunity to lay out his vision for Norwalk.
“Tonight is about what we’re going to do over the next two years together,” he said. “I want what every Norwalker wants: to make Norwalk a more livable city for families and businesses in all of our neighborhoods.”
Rilling outlined his five priorities to move Norwalk forward:
- Bringing responsible growth that fits the neighborhoods and increases the tax base;
- Creating a world-class education system that embraces the city's diversity;
- Creating a safe, inclusive community for families;
- Investing in infrastructure and making Norwalk more walkable and bikeable; and
- Reinvigorating the city's waterfront and parks.
Norwalk’s municipal election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Rilling will appear on the Democratic line for mayor.
