It's Boughton: Danbury Mayor Wins GOP Delegates' Endorsement For Governor

In a wild and crazy day, perhaps fittingly held at Foxwoods, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton held off a strong challenge from former Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst and a strong showing from Stamford native Steve Obsitnik of Westport to win the Republican Party's Convention endorsement for governor at the casino in Mashantucket.

The outcome came early Saturday evening in the third round. Mike Handler of New Canaan and State Rep Prasad Srinivasan of Glastonbury were eliminated in the first round. Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti, David Walker of Bridgeport and Peter Lumaj of Fairfield were then ousted in the second round.

Now, an August primary battle looms, with Herbst and Obsitnik, a tech entrepreneur, also assured of spots, along with Boughton. Herbst is seen as the more conservative of the trio.

Greenwich contractor Peter Thalheim did not get nominated on Saturday.
