Crowds Flock To Stamford Hotel For Obama Event

STAMFORD, Conn. — Downtown Stamford was a mob scene Monday evening as people from all across the area tried to catch a glimpse of President Barack Obama as he arrived in the city for a fundraiser at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa.

“It’s not something you get to see every day,” said Diane Griffin of Darien, who brought her three kids and one of their friends to Tresser Boulevard and Greyrock Place to try to see Obama. Her expectations were not high.

“It’s neat to see the motorcade if nothing else,” she said.

“I don’t always agree with him, but he is the president,” said Edward DiPreta, a former Greenwich resident who now lives in Georgia. He was in the area visiting family and decided it would be a good experience for his daughter to see Obama.

Though several people were trying to see the president, about 75 were there hoping he would see them as members of the Tea Party and other groups held a protest across the street from the hotel. With signs, chants and songs, they showed their unhappiness with Obama’s performance in the White House.

“I am working to get him out of office,” said Carol Cheslock of Bethel. She described herself as a frustrated American and called Obama “ineffective” and a “closet socialist.”

“America is worth fighting for, our dreams are worth fighting for,” Barbara, a conservative talk-show host from Harlem, N.Y., said as she addressed fellow protesters. She said people should vote for Mitt Romney, the likely Republican candidate for president who she said has business experience and believes in capitalism.

Police presence around the hotel was heavy, with several units set up on nearby intersections as well as at the hotel itself. They were assisted by the city's Operations Department, which used garbage trucks to block roadways, as well as by Stamford Fire & Rescue, which had several units on hand, including a “Mass Decontamination” truck.

After his event in Stamford, Obama was scheduled to head back to Westport – where he landed – for another fundraising event.

I hope these people would also look for the good deeds that Obama has done. They are just after their emotions. Obama comes back to white house. Meaning, he is still trusted by lots of American people. I'm currently here at hostel in Malaysia as I've seen this on TV. I was a bit shocked on this.

CTP, you throw the word around a lot, but I don't think "socialist" means what you think it means.

jrey:

Mr. B. Hussein Obama will not be re-elected. His biggest problem: he's got records now.

CTPatriot47:

Just for the record: there were no birther signs, misspelled signs, no Nazi signs, although socialist signs were, properly, in evidence. Any idiot can see that Obama is a welfare state socialist in the European mold. Obviously, Miscer is one of the deluded who believes in Obama's socialist Uptiopa of "Hope" and "Change" and Changeless Hope" and Hopeless Change." Hardly intelligent, Obama's speech was full of the lies and mistatements which have characterized his entire campaign which is built on character assassination because he has no record to run on. His audience consisted of those too stupid to see the harm he is doing to America, but want to be close to the man who is doing it.

miscer:

Amazing that your "coverage" of this event only focused on the nitwit brigade across the street from the event. They were outnumbered ten to one by supporters of the President who came to meet him and hear him speak. There was no news made outside the Marriott. The normal League of the Disaffected crew was there with their misspelled signs, incoherent birther nonsense, and "socialist-nazi-Kenya" lunacy. (Didn't see Trump at this hotel!)

Meanwhile, the folks inside heard an intelligent presentation from a good man who will win In Connecticut by at least ten percent and serve four more years.
Then the knuckleheads can crawl from the sewers for another quadrennial rant.

You voted for him to prove you were not a racist now vote against him to prove you are not an idiot

CTPatriot47:

I have a suggestion. Let's bring the Mass Decontamination Truck to Washington, DC after Obama's defeat, to clean out and fumigate the White House.

CTPatriot47:

It was great having Barbara from Harlem at the rally today. Barbara works tirelessly in the African-American community to expose the insidious Democrat efforts to keep blacks on the liberal plantation in exchange for their votes. Hope will not come to them until they throw off these chains of political bondage. Barbara is one bright sign that African-Americans are beginning to see the light.
She is joined by many others, like Daneen Borelli, Star Parker, Tim Scott (R-SC), Alan West (R-FL), and CT 3d District Congressional candidate, Wayne Winsley, who is running against the socialist Rosa DeLauro.
