Police are trying to piece together exactly what happened and why the woman got out of her 2015 Lexus SUV just before the accident.

"We don't know why she was out of her car," Norwalk police Lt. Terry Blake said. "The report is not even remotely down and there is a lot of follow up to do."

Police are waiting results from the medical examiner. Police are withholding the woman's name until pending notification of out-of-town next of kin, Blake said.

The accident occurred just before 4 p.m. Sunday as police were called to 2 Camp St. When officers arrived the woman was unresponsive and unconscious, Blake said.

Efforts were made to revive her by police and firefighters, and she was pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital
