Norwalk police were called to a one-car accident off Highland Avenue at about 6:50 p.m. Saturday. A witness later told police that he saw a car signal a turn where there was no cross street or driveway, and then it drove into a guy-wire connected to a telephone pole, according to police reports.
Officers found Susan Montez, 57, of Bridgeport behind the wheel of a car stopped on the grass behind the baseball fields at Roton Middle School, police said. Tire tracks in the snow led from the car to a downed guy wire nearby, police said.
Officers also found a set of footprints in the snow, which led to a nearby backyard, police said. A man there told officers he had fled from the car because Montez was intoxicated and “crazy,” according to the police report.
Montez failed a field sobriety test at the scene and was taken to Norwalk Police headquarters, police said. There, she kicked arresting officers while they attempted to fingerprint her, and again kicked at officers when they tried to handcuff her to take her to the hospital for intoxication treatments, according to the police report.
Montez was charged with assault on a peace officer, driving under the influence and failure to drive in a proper lane. She was released after posting $5,000 bond, and is due in court Feb. 7.
