WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport firefighters responded to two car accidents within two hours Friday night. The first was a five-car accident on Interstate 95 northbound that sent one person to the hospital. The second was a rollover on Saugatuck Avenue.

The accident on I-95 happened shortly after 8 p.m. between exits 17 and 18 near the Hales Road overpass, Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin said. The occupant of a Ford Edge with New Jersey license plates was treated by Westport EMS and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for further evaluation, Conklin said.

The accident scene was cleared at about 9:50 p.m., Conklin said. Then at 10:22 p.m., firefighters were called to a rollover accident on Saugatuck Avenue near Pierway Landing.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a single overturned car. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was already out of the car and treated for minor injuries by Westport EMS, Conklin said.

The Norwalk Fire Department also responded to the rollover and was placed in service by Westport Fire. The accident was being investigated by the Westport Police Department.
