Westport Police Officer Nearly Hit By Car In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – An erratic driver just missed hitting a Westport Police officer Thursday morning in Norwalk before crashing into the officer's cruiser, Norwalk Police said. No charges were filed.

Officer Yolanda Ramos was on an extra-duty assignment on Winfield Street near the Westport town line at about 9:30 a.m. when a white Lincoln Town Car came toward her, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. Ramos held up her hands to signal the driver to stop but realized that wasn't going to happen and stepped out of the way. The Town Car hit the back of her cruiser.

The driver was on medication, had a dazed expression and was finding it difficult to walk, but there was no odor of alcohol, Cotto said, nor any evidence in the car that he had been drinking. An ambulance was called and he was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

He had been driving on a flat right rear tire, Cotto said, and there was light damage on the right side of the car.
