NORWALK, Conn. – A Westport man was charged with heroin possession in Norwalk after being stopped on an open alcohol container violation Tuesday night, police say.
Officers on patrol saw a man in the lot of a condominium complex with clearly displayed “No Trespassing” signs at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to police reports. Officers recognized the man as Charles Burroughs, 63, of Jesup Road, Westport, whom they believe is “a known drug dealer,” police say.
Burroughs was holding a paper bag with the top of an open beer can visible, according to the police reports. When talking with police, Burroughs denied having contraband and allowed officers to search him, police say.
Officers found a set of six containers inside a makeshift pocket in Burroughs’ pants, according to police reports. The containers had a substance that tested positive for heroin and were labeled with the brand name “Awesome,” police say.
Burroughs was arrested and charged with public drinking, possession of narcotics, distribution of narcotics, and added charges for being within 1,500 feet of a school. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is due in court on Aug. 9.
