Update: Man Charged With Murdering Eastern Connecticut Student

Updated at 6:30 p.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A 30-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on murder and kidnapping charges Saturday afternoon in connection with the death of an Eastern Connecticut State University student, The Hartford Courant reported on its website.

Human remains found in Trumbull on Friday were identified Saturday as those of Alyssiah Wiley, who had been missing since April 20.

Jermaine Richards, of 115 Beardsley Park Terrace, turned himself in to state police at 3 p.m., said Lt. J. Paul Vance, state police spokesman. Bail was set at $2 million, Vance said.

Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Human remains found Friday morning in a wooded area near the Bridgeport-Trumbull line have been confirmed as those of a missing Eastern Connecticut State University student, CBS Connecticut WTIC-1080 reported Saturday morning on its website.

The State Police Forensic Lab determined the remains are of Alyssiah Wiley, CBS said. The chief state medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.

The discovery was made near Quarry Road in Trumbull, near the Bow Tie Cinemas Marquis 16.

Wiley had been the subject of extensive searches since she was last seen near the Willimantic campus April 20.

Wiley, 20, was from West Haven and was a sophomore majoring in psychology and biology.

A car police say is related to the case -- a black 2009 four-door Nissan Altima with tinted windows and Connecticut license plate 297-ZOY -- was found earlier in Bridgeport, Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance has said.
