UB Student Identified As Pedestrian Killed By Car In Shelton

SHELTON, Conn. — The man who was struck and killed by a car in Shelton has been identified as a 27-year-old graduate student at the University of Bridgeport who is from India, according to Shelton police. 

The fatal accident occurred near 350 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton late Tuesday.

Naga Tulasi Ram Bethapudi was the pedestrian who was hit during a multi-vehicle crash late Tuesday along Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton police said Wednesday morning. 

He was living in Waterbury and commuting to the University of Bridgeport, where he was a graduate student, police said. 

The accident occurred at 7:20 p.m., and the Shelton Police Department, Shelton Fire Department, and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Bethapudi was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was due to graduate this month from the University of Bridgeport with a master’s degree in electrical engineering, according to the Connecticut Post.

His academic adviser said Bethapudi was polite, shy, and a good student, the Post said. Bethapudi was studying power electronics and solar energy and was completing a final project on sustainable energy.

UB officials said he has no relatives in the United States, and they are working with Bethapudi’s friends on campus to plan a memorial, the Connecticut Post said.

After the accident, Bridgeport Avenue was closed from Platt Road to Cots Street for hours as the Shelton Police Department Accident Reconstruction team investigated. 

No arrests had been made and no tickets issued as of Wednesday in the fatal accident, police said. The crash remains under investigation. No further information was released about the accident.
