The identity of the 19-year-old victim, a Norwalk resident, was not disclosed by police but he was treated for the gunshot wound at Norwalk Hospital. He was able to drive to the hospital with the help of friends Wednesday night.
Police said the shooting started after two groups of teenagers got into an altercation in front of the Caribbean Grocery on West Cedar Street about 6:30 p.m.
Residents reported hearing gunfire and officers were able to set up a perimeter quickly to search for the suspects.
With the help of a police K-9, police said officers found Kevin McBride, 19, of Anderson Street in Norwalk, and an alleged accomplice, a 16-year-old Norwalk man whose identity was not released due to his age.
The pair had run off following the shooting and were discovered hiding under a porch on nearby Cedar Crest Place, according to police.
Officers and detectives canvassed the scene for evidence Wednesday night and retraced the pair's steps in search of the handgun used in the shooting, but it was not recovered, police said.
Additionally, police said they are not sure which of the two pulled the trigger.
McBride was charged with first degree assault, a felony, conspiracy and criminal trespass, and he was held on a $100,000 bond pending arraignment Thursday in Norwalk Superior Court.
The 16-year-old juvenile received similar charges and was being held at Meade Hall in Bridgeport.
