The off-duty officer heard a juvenile say, “I’m sitting on a gram,” an expression used by drug dealers to indicate they have a product, and notified headquarters, police said. He gave police a description of the suspect's car.

At 6:20 p.m. July 17, an officer on patrol saw the suspect vehicle traveling south on Peartree Point Road, and pulling into the beach parking lot, police said.

The vehicle was stopped in the lot, and the driver was identified as Andrew Tomasello, 19, of 99 Hoyt St. in Darien, police said.

When questioned, Tomasello said that earlier in the day, a juvenile suspect had sold him $40 worth of marijuana, police said. He then turned over a quantity of marijuana to the officers, police said.

Officers made contact with the juvenile suspect, who had gotten out of the vehicle before the traffic stop, and had his parents respond to the scene, police said.

They were informed that the Youth Bureau would be following up on the incident.

Tomasello was issued an infraction for possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, police said.

The juvenile was issued a juvenile summons for illegal distribution of marijuana, police said.
