The Van Zant Street fire was reported at Casale Auto Body about 6:25 a.m. The owner opened his ventilation system to find that smoke was coming out of the vent, according to Deputy Chief Edward Prescott.

Firefighters were able to open the outdoor vent to attack the flames and prevent them from spreading to the rest of the roof, Prescott said. The business sustained minor damage to its roof but is expected to remain open.

The second call came from Spring Hill Avenue about 7 a.m. Smoke was seen coming from a detached garage used for storage. Firefighters forced their way into the building and had the fire under control within about 10 minutes, Prescott said in a news release.

No injuries were reported in either incident. The causes of both fires were under investigation.
