Two Crashes On I-95 Leave 10 Injured In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Two related accidents involving seven cars on Interstate 95 on Sunday evening sent 10 people to Norwalk Hospital, including several children, Norwalk firefighters said. The injuries were all non-life threatening.

An accident involving four cars at about 8:15 p.m. caused another accident with three cars, Deputy Fire Chief Ed Prescott said. All the southbound lanes were closed at Exit 16 while officials helped the injured people.

At least 17 occupants were moved onto the highway's shoulder when emergency crews arrived. Four ambulances – two from Westport and two from Norwalk – were called to the scene. Nine people were in just one car, Prescott said.

Traffic was backed up beyond Exit 18, the Sherwood Island Connector, in Westport.

The three cars that were drivable and one that needed to be pushed were moved to the shoulder, opening up the high speed lane for one lane of traffic to flow, Prescott said. Wreckers removed the three damaged cars, opening up another lane at 8:45 p.m. More ambulances arrived, and the highway was completely open at 9:15 p.m. as State Police finished investigating.
