Brian Bennett, 22, was charged with unlawful reproduction of a credit card and receiving goods or services obtained illegally. Dondre Johnson was charged with unlawful reproduction of a credit card, fifth-degree larceny and criminal attempt at larceny. Each was held on $500 bond and will appear in court Jan. 23.
Officers were called to the Best Buy at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when the manager reported that they had detained two men who tried to use fraudulent credit cards, police said. The manager told police that Bennett had gone into the store and tried to buy a $500 iPad. The credit card he tried to use had a Visa logo but the number was for an American Express card, according to police.
Johnson had tried to buy a pair of Beats by Dre headphones worth $400 with a credit card that had numbers that did not match the card, police said. Both men were detained by Best Buy employees and taken into custody by officers, police said. A third person was with them, waiting outside, and that person left the scene in a vehicle, police said.
Officers discovered that Bennett had been in the store earlier and had used the same card to illegally make two purchases for $34.99 and $119.99, police said.
