Just before 7 p.m. Sunday, Milford officers stopped his vehicle at the Exit 34 entrance ramp to I-95 due to an equipment violation, police said.

An investigation led to the arrest of Dupree Smalls, 29, of Capital Avenue in Bridgeport, police said. Smalls is not legally allowed to be in possession of a handgun because he is a convicted felon and because there is active order of protection against him, police said.

Smalls was charged with misuse of plate, failure to have insurance, operating under suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, no front plate, weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm and violation of a protective order.

Bond was set at $20,000 for a court appearance on Dec. 19.
