NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Fire, Police and Public Works departments will be sponsoring an open house and touch-a-truck event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Public Works Center on South Smith Street.

All three departments will feature hands-on activities, giveaways and demonstrations for all ages. Children and adults will learn how the departments prepare and respond to all types of events to keep residents safe and can explore different fire, police and public works vehicles.

In 2014, almost 2,000 visitors came to this event.

In support of the Person- to- Person Food Pantry in South Norwalk, the departments are sponsoring a food drive as part of this year’s open house. All visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items; especially peanut butter, jelly, soup and kid-friendly school snacks. Last year, approximately 500 pounds of food was collected.

Light refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 203-854-3200.
