NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was arrested on drug possession charges after leading police on a brief foot chase Wednesday, according to police reports.
Norwalk officers were performing extra patrol near the Colonial Village apartment complex after receiving complaints of trespassing and drug activity, police said. Marcel Lee, 43, of Monroe Street was seen leaning into a car with a Norwalk woman in the backseat at the complex Wednesday evening, police said.
Neither Lee nor the woman live in the area, and the two could not tell police why they were parked there, according to police reports. When told that officers would do a pat-down, Lee began to run away, police said.
During the chase, officers saw him pull a small plastic bag from his waistband and throw it on the ground, police said. Officers later found the bag, which contained 8.2 grams of powder cocaine, according to the police report.
Officers continued to chase Lee through the complex until he slipped on the front step of an apartment, police said. He was then arrested after a struggle with police. He was charged with simple trespass, possession of narcotics, sale of narcotics, interfering with police and added charges of being within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on $100,000 bond and is due in court Feb 21.
Police also searched the car but did not find any narcotics inside. The female passenger was given a ticket on a charge of simple trespass and sent on her way, police said.
