On Tuesday morning, U.S. Marshals and Stamford Police arrested Howard Rose, 25, of Stamford at a Chapel Street residence in Norwalk, a statement from the department said. He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a firearm, the statement said.
He also had two violations of probation warrants, police said. He was held on a total bond of $550,000, the statement said.
“We are relieved to have him in custody,” Capt. Richard Conklin said, adding that police have information that the suspect had been threatening others with a gun. No gun was found during the arrest, he said.
The occupants at the Norwalk residence were uncooperative, and he was found hiding in a closet before being arrested without incident, police said. The police department had an arrest warrant for Rose and identified him as a suspect in late April.
Police believe Rose was in the back of 24 Woodland Place when a Jeep pulled into the driveway and he began shooting at it April 23. Someone in the Jeep returned fire and fled the scene, police said. The suspect, believed to be Rose, ran away on foot, police said previously.
Investigators identified Rose because witnesses “gave us enough information,” Conklin said. The department was able to widen its search to neighboring towns, including Norwalk and Bridgeport, with the help of the U.S. Marshals, he said.
Conklin expected Rose to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon after detectives finished interviewing him.
The suspect is known to frequent Stamford's South End, specifically the area around Woodland Place, Ludlowe Street, South Pacific Street and Henry Street, police said.
