Employees at Costco on Connecticut Avenue reported that a man used an American Express gift card to buy a $3,700 television there in September, police said. He also attempted to buy a digital camera but was declined, according to the police report.
The same suspect later tried to return the TV at the chain’s Port Chester, N.Y., store but was turned away, police said. The store later found that the card number he used to buy the television had been stolen, according to police reports.
The Norwalk Police fraud investigation team linked the credit card to a suspect believed to be involved in similar cases across Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Costco employees positively identified Isaiah Thomas, 26, as the suspect in the Norwalk case, police said.
Thomas was arrested by Enfield Police on forgery charges last week and has been in police custody since. He was served an arrest warrant at Norwalk Superior Court on Wednesday and charged with third-degree larceny, credit card theft and illegal use of a credit card in the Norwalk incident. He is being held on $50,000 bond, and is due in court next on Jan. 29.
