Norwalk police officers — along with officers from New Canaan — were conducting a DUI checkpoint on West Avenue near North Water Street when they encountered Christopher Ferraro, 38, police said.
Instead of stopping for the officers, Ferraro accelerated through the checkpoint, police said. Officers followed Ferraro onto Interstate 95 and stopped him near Exit 17, police said.
Officers asked Ferraro to undergo field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said. During a search of he vehicle, officers also found a bag of marijuana, a smoking pipe and a grinder inside the car, police said.
Officers said Ferraro was apologetic during the traffic stop. He was charged with reckless driving, possession of less than a half ounce of cannabis-type substance first offense, operation while under the influence, disobeying signal of an officer first time, failure to obey a control signal, use or possession with intent and use/possession of drug paraphernalia of less than one half ounce of marijuana, police said.
Ferraro’s bond was set at $1,500 with a court date of April 4, police said.
