Jeanette Navin, 55, and her husband, Jeffrey Navin, 56, have not been seen or heard from since Tuesday, Aug. 4. They were reported missing to police on Friday, Aug. 7. Easton police began an investigation and searched for the couple throughout the weekend.

An older Dodge pickup truck belonging to the couple was found on Sunday, Aug. 9 in Westport in a commuter parking lot off the Merritt Parkway, police said. The following day, Easton police requested detectives from the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad to assist with the investigation.

On Wednesday, the Bridgeport States Attorney's Office requested that state police assume the missing persons investigation.

The Navins, who recently moved from Weston to Easton, grew up in Westport and attended local schools. Jeffrey Navin is the president of J&J Refuse in Westport, which started operations in 1985, and Jeanette Navin is a school library aide at Weston Intermediate School.

Shortly after their disappearance, it was reported that Jeffrey Navin was $2.2 million in debt in connection with a mortgage on a Guilford home that had not been paid in years. Members of the couple's family released a statement shortly after, saying that their financial issues did not play a role in their disappearance, and that there were available funds in their bank accounts that were still untouched.

Easton Police Chief Timothy Shaw said that there appeared to be nothing amiss in the couple's Easton apartment. He said that the truck found in Westport had a smashed window, but it was unclear whether it was related to the couple's disappearance.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact state police detectives at (860) 685-8190.  All calls will be kept confidential.
