STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford police have charged a local woman with second-degree manslaughter and felony leaving the scene of an accident after a fatal hit-and-run accident on Woodland Avenue on Sunday, April 20, according to ctnews.com.
The 70-year-old victim, Margarita Gonzalez, is the mother of Police Investigator Angel Gonzalez, an 18-year veteran of the Stamford Police Department, according to ctnews.com . .
Yolanda McDowell, 45, drove her Chrysler minivan over the double yellow line to pass stopped vehicles on Woodland Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. Sunday when she struck and killed Gonzalez, who was attempting to cross the street near Atlantic Street, ctnews.com said.
McDowell then continued on in the wrong lane of travel until she struck another vehicle, ctnews.com reported.
She was arrested about an hour later and was held overnight on $215,000 bond, ctnews.com said.
