The caller told police that a juvenile had been shot, that they had an AR-15 assault rifle, and that they had taken hostages, prompting police to race to the home at around 11:15 p.m. Monday, the Stamford Advocate reported. When officers arrived, the female homeowner exited the house along with her son and her son's friend, and police searched and found that nobody was injured, according to the Stamford Advocate.
The homeowner told police that just before police arrived, her son's friend woke her up and told her that he had been playing an XBox game online with someone he believed to be from Ireland, the Stamford Advocate reported. The player in Ireland told the friend that he had called Stamford Police, who arrived at the home shortly after, according to the Stamford Advocate.
The boy told police that he didn't know the Irish player, but said his gaming screen name was SIN_ZRQ, the Stamford Advocate reported. The player claimed to be wanted by the FBI, and had also been able to hack the XBox and discover the Stamford address through the console's IP address, according to the Stamford Advocate.
Police told the Stamford Advocate that they called the number that the phone call came from, but were not able to reach anybody.
