Michael Trombetta, 27, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and will appear in court May 21.

Trombetta was being treated at the hospital Monday afternoon when he tried to escape and started walking down the hill on Maple Street, police said. When nurses and security tried to follow him, he shouted at them to get away and yelled racial slurs, saying he was exercising his freedom of speech, according to police reports.

He was eventually taken back inside but continued to cause a disturbance and yell profanities, police said. Doctors and staff tried to calm him down, but he stood up with his fists raised in a boxer's stance and asked whether anyone wanted to fight him, according to police.

He started to throw punches, but police said none of them connected with anyone.

When officers arrived, he said that one of the security guards had punched him in the head, but witnesses told police that this was not true. He was issued a summons to appear in court.
