NORWALK, Conn. – A man leaving a Norwalk bar early Sunday morning was struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver on South Main Street, police said.
Police charged 24-year-old David Oricchio of Fairfield with driving under the influence, evading and miss use of plates.
The victim, a 47-year-old man, told police he was walking to his car with several friends from the Moose Bar around 2 a.m. when his friends warned him that a car was coming and he attempted to jump out of the way, police said. He described the car as a grey Subaru wagon that was "swerving all over the roadway heading towards him,” police said.
Police were told the sedan drove the wrong way down Concord Street after driving away from the scene. The victim told EMS that he had "severe right ankle and leg pain" after he jumped on the hood of his own car to avoid being hit by the oncoming car.
When police investigated the scene on South Main Street they found pieces of gray plastic from a vehicle. Police said officers later found the alleged vehicle on Ely Avenue near Lowe Street, with damage to the passenger side that matched the parts found at the scene. The plates on the car were registered to a different vehicle, police said.
