Police were called to the scene of a car crash on Ward Street near Thames Street. A car traveling as fast as 70 mph had failed to make a turn from Ohio Avenue, according to a witness.

The car then drove into two fences on Ward Street properties, according to the police report. The car stopped when it hit another unoccupied car on the street, police said. The crash scene smelled of alcohol, and officers found several broken beer bottles at the scene.

Jose Zotelo, 19, of Camp Street was driving the car at the time, police said. While talking to police he appeared intoxicated, and he failed field sobriety tests at the scene, according to the arrest report.

Zotelo was charged with driving under the influence, and issued an infraction for speeding. He was released at the scene to receive medical treatment. A passenger in his car, a 17-year-old male, was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
