NORWALK, Conn. -- A Norwalk man was arrested Thursday morning after police said he claimed to have dead bodies in the trunk of his car and then locked himself in his house.

William Cyrta, 54, contacted Fairfield Police rambling about having dead bodies in his car, Norwalk police said. Norwalk officers were dispatched to Cyrta's Bartlett Manor home to check on him, police said.

Cyrta came outside and talked briefly to officers before running back inside and locking the door, according to police reports. He then pointed at officers and told them to call backup, police said.

A family member tried to calm down Cyrta, but he became agitated, police said. Officers could see he was holding a broomstick and were concerned for the family member's safety, according to police reports. They entered the house and attempted to control Cyrta, police said.

He was Tasered and after a struggle was taken into custody, according to police reports. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital and issued a summons for interfering with an officer.

Officers checked the trunk of Cyrta's car and said it did not contain any bodies, police said.
