Police: Norwalk Man Caught Breaking Into Business

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was arrested and charged with breaking into a business on First Street.

According to police reports, an employee of Effective Plumbing was closing the shop and leaving for the day Tuesday when he saw a gold-colored sedan pull into the driveway and the driver honk the horn for about 10 seconds. He also noticed a man, later identified as Layvurn Simmons, 49, of Norwalk, exiting the basement of the business. The man told police that Simmons crouched down next to a white truck, as if trying to hide.

According to the police report, the sedan left the driveway and started to drive away. The employee got into his car and started following while he called the police. After following the sedan for a while, he returned to the business on First Street, where he saw Simmons walk out of the driveway and start running toward Seaview Avenue.

Police arrived shortly thereafter and the employee flagged them down and pointed out Simmons, the report stated. He was ordered to the ground and handcuffed.

Simmons was charged with third-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, both felonies, as well as second-degree criminal trespassing, criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Police said that Simmons did not have any stolen items in his possession, but, during a walk-through of the basement, they found several large spools of copper tubing they believe he was targeting.
