The 37-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were each charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor and interfering with an officer. Bond was set at $500 for each, and they will appear in court on July 11.

Officers arrived at the couple's Ely Avenue home Wednesday night with DCF officials to remove a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old from the residence, police said. When the man came to the door, he told officers that the kids were not there, police said.

Officers searched the apartment, and found the two young children out on the fire escape with the woman, police said. A heavy rainstorm was occurring at the time.

The woman had tried to flee with the children through the fire escape because she knew that DCF was coming, police said.

At first, she refused to hand her kids over and held them outside in the rain, police said. Eventually she let the children go back inside, police said, and the two adults were both taken into custody.
